"The Possession": One of the Spookiest Movies this Year by Reverend Sharleece Bellagosi

The Possession-20120504-73.jpg   On Thursday, September 5, 2012, I went to see the #1 movie "The Possession" at 5:05pm. The movie opened with  an old woman holding a hammer preparing to hit an old box, when a shockingly unexpected act of supernatural violence stopped her in her tracks. Immediately, I was hooked.
"The Possession" starring Jeffery Dean Morgan (Supernatural), Kyra Sedwick (The Closer), and Natasha Calis is about a supernatural being known a dybbuk that can possession individuals and cause physical damage to objects and people in the living world. "The Possession" directed by Sam Raimi (The Final Destination franchise) is marketed as based on a true story. I did not believe it, so I researched the dybbuk box to find out why it was considered 'based on a true story. What I discovered was that the actual dybbuk box was brought to America by a Polish immigrant in the early 1900's. Like in the movie, the dybbuk box was original sold to a business man at a garage sale. Moreover, the most common problems experienced by the owners of the dybbuk box were bug infestations, bodily changes, and bumping noises in the night. However, the movie goes far beyond the true testimonies of various owners of the true dybbuk box adding phenomenal special effects worthy of mentioning.
As expected, the box that should not be opened is opened and a possession is began slowly. As the movie progresses, the possession and the violent spooky incidents escalate as well. The father played by Jeffery Dean Morgan becomes the only one aware of the situation and seeks help from Jewish Rabbis. The final thrill occurs in a hospital basement with the help of family and a Jewish Rabbi played by handsome soulfully voiced Matisyahu whom sings a soulful pop sounding song in hebrew.
"The Possession" is a spooky ride with wonderful performances that makes it feel like Halloween in September. It is the best possession film that I have seen since "The Exorcist" which was also based on a true story. I give "The Possession" for slimy eyes for spooky. In addition, watch the true accounts on Paranormal Witness on Syfy, episode, dybbuk box. "The Possession" is rated PG-13 due to violence. Comment and tell me how you like the movie.
